DULUTH — St. Scholastica will look to snap its two-game losing streak when the Saints host St. Olaf in MIAC football at 1 p.m. Saturday at Public Schools Stadium.

St. Scholastica (2-4 overall, 1-3 MIAC) is coming off a 56-20 loss to Carleton last week in Northfield, Minnesota, as the Knights amassed 477 yards of offense, including 280 yards and two touchdowns through the air and 197 yards and four TDs on the ground.

Donald West was 17-for-28 passing for 159 yards, with one touchdown and one interception, and Ashton Hain rushed nine times for 151 yards and a 60-yard TD run. Sophomore linebacker John Bonner of Grand Rapids paced the defense with 17 tackles and 2.5 for a loss, including 1.5 quarterback sacks.

St. Olaf (3-3, 2-2) has also lost two straight after falling 49-10 at home to St. John’s, ranked No. 8 in NCAA Division III, Aaron Syverson was 26-for-40 passing for 356 yards, with five touchdowns and no interceptions.

Sophomore quarterback Theo Doran was 13-for-28 passing with one touchdown and two interceptions for the Oles.

Saints stopped by Wildcats

St. Scholastica was second-best at the net on Friday in a 3-1 (25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-19) Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss at St. Catherine.

The Wildcats outblocked the Saints 13-4 and had advantages in kills and hitting percentage.

In the first set, CSS had a six-point run but only got partly out of a 22-11 hole. In set two, CSS survived four set points but couldn’t avoid falling behind 2-0. The Saints broke through in the third despite trailing 19-13 and 21-17. The Saints trailed 24-22 and faced two match points, but St. Kate’s committed three consecutive attack errors and, with a 25-24 lead, CSS won the third set when Alana Mayry tooled a kill off the St. Kate’s block.

CSS and St. Kate’s were tied at 13 but the Saints couldn’t string together more than two consecutive points the rest of the way en route to defeat.

Jessica Remer led the Saints with 12 kills, while Mayry added 11. Katie Brostrom finished with 36 assists, while Alcia Draper finished with 24 digs and Remer 16.

CSS (11-10, 4-5 MIAC) returns to its home floor next weekend (Oct. 28) for its home finale vs. Gustavus Adolphus.
