Saints report: CSS settles for double-overtime tie with Carleton in MIAC women’s soccer – Duluth News Tribune

Bella Bettner’s goal at 76:41 lifted Carleton to a 1-1 tie with St. Scholastica in MIAC women’s soccer Saturday at Saints Field in Duluth.

Brea Archer of Duluth staked the Saints to a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the season at 43:02 in the first half but it didn’t hold up as this one ended in a tie, just like the last time the teams met in 2015.

Exra Kucur had three saves for the Knights (7-4-3, overall, 4-4-1 MIAC) while Taelynn Gittins had eight saves for the Saints (3-9-4, 3-4-2).

Charlie Hall scored a natural hat trick — all from the penalty spot — to rally Carleton to a 4-3 MIAC victory over St. Scholastica before 67 at Saints Field.

Hall scored his goals in a 16-minute span from 69:13 to 85:06 as CSS played a man down for the final 30 minutes after Finigan Huffington received a red card at 59:19.

Carleton (10-3-2 overall, 7-2-0 MIAC), which has won five straight matches and four straight in the series against the Saints (6-9-1, 2-5-1).

Clemente Infante had a goal and an assist and Liam Lothian had six saves for CSS.

St. Scholastica downed Carleton 3-1 but then fell 3-1 to Wisconsin-Platteville in triangular volleyball action from Northfield, Minnesota.

The Saints topped Carleton 23-25, 25-17, 29-27, 26-24 in a MIAC match as Haley Rohwer was tough along the net with a career-high 17 kills and four blocks and Alcia Draper led all players with 29 digs. Jancyn Appel had 17 kills and five blocks to lead the Knights (6-18 overall, 1-8 MIAC).

Emma Carlson and Olivia Kudronowicz had 15 and 14 kills, respectively, to lead Platteville (12-14) to a 25-18, 29-27, 16-25, 25-21 nonconference victory in the Saints’ second match on the day.

Delayne Schaeffer had a career-high 10 kills and Caitlin Schneeweis of Duluth had nine kills to lead CSS. Draper had 26 digs and Katie Brostrom had 13 set assists — and 46 on the day — to top 1,000 for her career.

The Saints are now 4-11 overall and 3-6 in MIAC play.
